To kick off the 2024 Homecoming Bonfire, the marching band paraded in and started by playing the Freddie Fight song. The cheerleaders showed school spirit by stunting and holding signs. Then, Coach Hartley invited the football team up to the trailer. The team captains and seniors were introduced. After that, the homecoming court was recognized.
At this point, Cheerleading Coach Tonya Cubbage called the homecoming court and their escorts over to play a few games. The first game was a water balloon relay. The court members began the relay by getting in burlap bags to get the race going. They jumped to their assigned bucket of water balloons and had to pop them one by one until they popped 5. The catch was, they were not allowed to use their hands or feet. Once the ladies passed the line, the guys on the court hopped over to pop their own balloons. In a neck and neck race, Jonathan Burns and Ellie Kershner came out on top for the first game.
The next game was a spin on musical chairs. The court members and their escorts stood in a circle facing outwards while four pies filled with Cool Whip were passed around. Fredericktown’s percussion rolled through different cadences for the pies to move around. When percussion stopped, whoever ended up with the pie was then pied in the face. Once pied in the face they were out. Jonathan Burns won yet again.
To end the bonfire festivities, the football team grabbed the three flags and waved them around over to the fire. These flags were of Mount Gilead tshirts, which then the captains speared into the fire. This is an ongoing tradition for the Freddies during homecoming week.
