In Ceramics the students are making cell phone amplifiers which will increase the amount of sound produced from their cell phones.
The students roll out a slab of clay and mold it around a circular sphere to make the amplifier. Next, another slab is rolled out and students trace their sphere onto the slab to make a circle.
Once the circle is cut out, it is then smoothed onto the sphere to make the bottom. Next, a slot in the amplifier for the cell phone is cut. The students then add details onto their amplifiers to make them into animals or different creatures.
The amplifiers are left out to dry and then get sanded in preparation for the kiln. After they are fired for the first time, they then will get glazed and/or painted. The amplifiers that are glazed have to go in the kiln one more time and then are completed.
