In Crafts, the students are creating paper mache vessels. First, the students blow up balloons and tape them onto tin cans to stand up the balloon. They then use recycled paper that gets shredded into pieces.
Once the paper is shredded the students cover the pieces with paper mache paste, which is watered down glue, and place the pieces onto the balloon. The students keep placing the pieces of paper until they have two layers of brown paper and two layers of white.
Once dried, the students deflate the balloon and decorate their vessels. They use paper pulp decorations to do this decorating. The students can do organic shapes, abstracts, nature references, and designs from Faberġe eggs.
Once the decorating is finished, the vessels get painted however the student would like.
