Mrs. J Overholt had never considered being anything but a teacher. From a very young age, she absolutely loved to play school with her siblings at home, as well as write on the chalkboard.
So by the time she reached high school, it only made sense to combine her love for teaching and music and turn it into a career. She hoped that by becoming a teacher, she would be able to connect others around her through music and to music.
Most students associate Mrs. Overholt with the 2nd grade program and being assisting band director. Mrs. Overholt has many other talents too. Her hobbies include flower gardening, vacationing with family, and most recently, sewing. Soon, she also plans on taking the project of expanding her flower gardens.
To add to the list of her hobbies, she has started an Embroidery Journal. The journal consists of icons that represent the more memorable parts of her day.
Mrs. Overholt has been with the Fredericktown School District for 28 years, but has 31 total years of experience.
After obtaining her bachelors degree at Ohio University, Mrs. Overholt started her career at Greenfield McClain Exempted Village Schools. But after meeting her husband, she decided it was time to move closer to home. This gave her the opportunity to be a substitute teacher at both Mt.Vernon and Fredericktown schools before she took up a long term sub position in Reynoldsburg.
Through the experience she had, Mrs. Overholt learned that she preferred teaching in a smaller district as opposed to one in a larger city. Luckily for her, she became a full-time Freddie the next summer!
Mrs. Overholt has highly impacted both the music program and the academic one at FHS. Her legacy proves that.
