The percussion ensemble opened high school festivities. The ensemble played a total of five songs ranging in genres. During the show, seniors Cicely Bartsch and Bella Kraus along with sophomore Graham Overholt were featured on the drumset. Senior John Divelbiss was also featured on the bass guitar.
Kraus stated, “Percussion Ensemble is probably my favorite part of the year. I’ve been hyped about it since about the start of band camp, if I’m being honest.”
The ensemble is a group that is looked forward to by everyone involved. The group is made up of 16 students and 2 directors. Half of the musicians play percussion as their main instrument and the other half play some sort of woodwind.
Stan Miller, a past director and a large help to the Fredericktown Community, was a major contributor to the success of the ensemble. Miller mentioned to director Chris Phillips that he “got the bug” after last year’s performance. This inspired him to come out of musical retirement and compose a few pieces for the ensemble to play this year.
If you missed the ensemble’s first performance, be sure to catch them in action at the talent show on March 19th!!
