Josh Alexander officially committed to the University of Rio Grande’s track and cross country teams. He will be running distance as well as pole vaulting. Josh has been an athlete since childhood, and is extremely excited to continue at the collegiate level.
While in college, Josh plans to major in business management. This is in case the firefighting and EMS careers do not work out for him. He is led to these professions because he enjoys helping people at their worst of times. Being there for people and bringing smiles to their faces at their lowest is truly something that makes him happy.
Josh participates in outdoor and indoor track and field as well as cross country. Within the last few track seasons, he has taken up pole vault. The decision to start pole vaulting was inspired by one of his close friends, Brandon Hogg. Twice a week, they attend Buckeye Pole Vault Academy to work on their skills and better one another. Besides pole vault, Josh also runs in the 4×800, 1600m, as well as the 3200m.
Even though Josh has accomplished many goals with his team throughout high school (such as beating Mount Gilead), Josh is looking forward to the new team atmosphere that will greet him at Rio Grande. Meeting new friends and making new connections is something that he is looking forward to in college.
Since he was a kid, he has been extremely active. Throughout elementary school and middle school, Josh played soccer, baseball, and basketball, and would always run around with friends. He never imagined that ru
nning around at recess would lead him to falling in love with the sport of running.
Before meets, Josh always has one of the same two meals: oatmeal or cream of wheat. The consistency sits best so he can focus on striving to do his best.
“I will miss the conversations on long runs and the countless memories with the team.”
