Mr. Will Hartley is an extremely appreciated teacher in the Fredericktown School District.
Hartley was born in England, and once he was 11 years old, he moved over the seas to America in 1982 because his father was originally from Ohio.
Mr. Hartley has taught for a total of 27 years,. The Fredericktown School District is thankful to have him for 23 of those years. One of Hartley’s favorite memories at Fredericktown was taking the junior AP American History students to the Kenyon College library four times a year for research.
Hartley has coached football here, with 15 of those years being an assistant coach and 8 being the head coach. He resigned after this past 2024 season. He still is Head Boys Track Coach.
Before Hartley became a high school teacher, he was in the Army serving our country, for a total of 2 years. He seriously considered striving for an officer position.
Some fun facts about Mr. Hartley and the amount of history he is interested in sometimes looks like it has no limits. It truly is a love of his.
Because of his history knowledge, Mr. Hartley definitely had a wide range of people to choose from. Three people he would love to meet, if time travel existed, would be Churchill, Eisenhower, and Napoleon. “They were alive during very unique times and made drastic world changing decisions,” he explained.
When school is out for the summers, Hartley looks forward to fishing, farming, and walking his dog Rae, which is a Boxer. He also goes on family vacations with his wife Michelle, older son Grant, and younger son Darren, That family time together is where they make many memories. Trips back to England to see family has been part of their vacation plans. The last summer for this visit was Summer of 2023
After attending Clear Fork High School, Mr. Hartley studied at Baldwin-Wallace College because of the positive balance between athletics and academics, both of which were taken quite seriously. Hartley majored in History because of his curiosity and wonder about dates and times past..
Mr. Hartley’s final advice and encouragement to students is “Be flexible and open-minded.”
