Biomedical Science is one of the best additions to FHS. In the class right now students are investigating and solving a case of a dead girl. Many activities are involved like DNA testing, fingerprints and Gel electrophoresis.
“This class is really engaging and interactive because it makes me know I want to pursue the career I want,” exclaimed Mya Stoerkel.
For most, one of the favorite things done so far is conducting a polygraph test because it was interesting and fun. Students played “2 Truths and 1 Lie” with their partners using the equipment. When the results were connected to their computers, they could see which one was the lie.
The Gel Electrophoresis was riveting because it was fun to do and learn how extract DNA. One thing students have learned about was red blood cells for blood analysis. Before this, many didn’t know much about certain parts of the body.
Mrs. Shriver’s favorite thing about teaching this class is using all of the lab activities and all of the interactive activities.
Mrs. Shriver got her bachelors degree in chemistry and masters in education along with doing other testing to be able to teach the class. She believes in PLTW and wants more options for high schoolers.
