The third senior to commit to a college athletically is Madisyn Copley. She signed with Mount Vernon Nazarene University to cheer next fall for the basketball team.
Planning to major in Biology, Copley stated that she fell in love with it her sophomore year. She especially enjoyed the genetics unit.
Copley’s love for cheer started in 7th grade when her friend convinced her to join with her.
During stunting, she is a base, meaning she is at the bottom of any/all stunts. Her favorite stunt is an elevator going into a torch.
Copley’s favorite memory from cheer is when they learned stunting. They brought a former OSU cheerleader to teach them how to stunt for three hours one day over the summer.
“Seeing what cool things we can do with our bodies has been SO empowering.”
Preferring basketball season over football, she said the energy is much greater for basketball games and she likes the more scattered schedule. She also loves the lively atmosphere and understands basketball more.
The energy during the second half of the game is also what makes it her favorite part of game day, saying the energy is usually up at the start of the second half.
Copley’s pregame ritual is to do her makeup at home and worry about her hair later. She also has her friend on the team, Lily, put her cheer bow in.
