El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is celebrated throughout Mexico on November 1st and 2nd to honor the memory of loved ones. The tradition of color and remembrance is celebrated with flowery designs and artistic sand tapestries that are celebrated in streets, plazas, and cemeteries. There are parades during the day and some stay up to celebrate with their loved ones at night in cemeteries.
The Spanish Club learned about this holiday and had the annual coloring contest. Students could submit two entries each. Since this is their heritage, the staff at Fiesta Mexicana in Mount Vernon joined in as the judges of this competition.
