Ruth Ann Huffstetler, one of our lunch ladies, is the head of the cook staff.
The most famous thing served here, besides the pizza, is the cookies they make. Huffstetler explains that this year, all the cookies are made from scratch. However, for Christmas, they bought cutouts so they could just ice them to save time.
Food orders are her main job. Mrs. Huffstetler is the only person who is able to create the order which takes over an hour. She has to make sure that the food can be delivered, so if it isn’t available for the week, she has to find substitutes.
When it comes to the menu, Mrs. Huffstetler has to make sure that there are enough vegetables. Certain things such as cheeseburgers are once a month. She makes sure that pasta is on the menu a couple times a week, and pizza every Friday. She also adds new things to the menu to see if the students will like it.
Cooks also added new things on the menu: pea salad, kiwi, cottage cheese, and pasta salad. They put in a new uncrustable flavor, raspberry, and the students who got it seemed to love it. Huffsteler is going to order more from now on.
Theresa Thompson created the February menu. Mrs. Huffstelter goes over the breakfast and meals to make sure she doesn’t need to add anything.
Mrs. Huffstelter has been cooking for Fredericktown for 40 years. She’s never loved a job more. R “I can say I love this job. I started out as part time. Now, of course. I’m here full time. I’ve never been happier. ”She probably has the most school spirit out of all of us.
